Love machines
Inspired by an article exploring the rising phenomenon in Japan of men buying female dolls as substitutes for human relationships, this project delves into the blurred lines between intimacy, technology, and dystopia. The idea captivated me: What would this reality look like? Could a bond with a machine ever replace the depth and complexity of human connection? As I pondered these questions, a more unsettling thought emerged—can we truly trust relationships with robots, where the dynamic is inherently one-sided and manufactured? In this project, I embraced a dystopian perspective, imagining a world where artificial companions become indistinguishable from humans, yet lack the unpredictability, vulnerability, and authenticity that make relationships real. Through staged photographs and carefully constructed compositions, I explored themes of isolation, artificial intimacy, and the emotional dissonance of living in a world where the lines between human and machine are increasingly blurred. This series challenges viewers to reflect on the future of relationships in an age dominated by technology. Are we gaining connection, or are we losing touch with what it means to be human?
