Dona Jose founded "Women who Weave".
A female-led organization empowering women through economic independence. Founded by women in 1992, the women faced initial resistance from the community. However, the cooperative persisted, recognizing the importance of economic independence. Over time, they gained acceptance and support, inspiring other women to pursue opportunities outside the home.
The cooperative emphasizes collective decision-making, allowing women equal management rights, challenging patriarchal structures. By valuing traditional artisanal skills like weaving, it resists gender stereotypes, celebrating women's expertise. This community is vital in combating the isolation often felt by women in male-dominated spaces.
